Australian Air Force Cadets
The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) is administered and sponsored by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and aims to teach valuable life skills by developing leadership, self-reliance, confidence, teamwork and communication skills while fostering an interest in aviation.
Some activities undertaken by the AAFC include both powered flight and gliding, fieldcraft, adventure training, firearms safety training, drill and ceremonial, service knowledge, aero modelling, survival skills and navigation.
No matter what career you choose, the AAFC provides a foundation of knowledge and skills that will assist you towards your future.
The AAFC are located in 142 Squadrons spread across every State and Territory in Australia. To find out if there is an Air Force Cadet Squadron near you, click on your state and drill down!
To become an Australian Air Force Cadet you must:
- be between 13 and 17 years of age inclusive,
- be a permanent resident of Australia or have a temporary resident visa of more than 12 months,
- complete an application form, signed by your parents or guardian,
- be cleared by your doctor, and
- not be a member of the ADF, Australian Navy Cadets or Australian Army Cadets.

Volunteers in action!
Defence is looking for adult volunteers to lead and inspire young people as part of the Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets. ADF Cadets is Defence’s leading youth development program, supporting 13 to 18 year-olds through activities that help them thrive in a team environment, improve communication skills, and become responsible members of the local community.
